2021 Annual General Meeting: Update

Hello Everyone,

This letter is to officially close the 2021 annual general meeting and to answer questions that were asked in your responses.

Before I do that, I just need to comment on the “workers from Loon Drive”. If you haven’t seen the pictures yet on the website, please check out all the hard work and joint effort put forth by the residents. You all know living up north is not like living in a city. We now have several families who are living here year-round and being prepared is number one on the list. Congrats to them for their team efforts.

Report on the Annual General Meeting:

Thanks to all who voted and answered with questions and comments.

The two motions are passed.

We had two members offer to help with a goose control idea. Another person also sent a document from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. There is lots of information but no solutions.

One member asked for a more detailed account of the financial report.

1. Membership is down so less income this year.

2. We offer lake maps to all members which cost to print.

3. There are some members who wish to have information mailed as they do not have access to the internet or e-mail.

4. Cards of sympathy are sent whenever a member dies.

5. Five thousand dollars is invested in a very low yielding GIC. That money is from the days when our membership fees were much higher. The membership decided to keep it aside in the event we needed it for legal advice on any issue. For example, we did stave off an attempt by Seguin to build a landfill on a hill that drained into Sugar Lake.

At this time, I would like to thank all of the volunteers who make this association work. Sometimes we lose sight of all the people who help year-round or at different times during the year. We received several thankyou comments from people expressing gratitude to Nancy and me. Behind the scenes there are 10-15 people alone who (normally) help set up the meeting place and get supplies. All the signs posted with the website are made and painted by a volunteer. Many of these people have absorbed costs incurred from their volunteering. I am so proud because I think we have a great group of volunteers and more are always welcome.

We have not received dues from many people yet. I realize it is so much easier when you can just pay at the meeting. However, this is different as we know. Please send your dues of $20.00 by E-transfer to npleich@sympatico.ca or mail cheque to Sugar Lake Association:

I would like to end on a personal note. My husband and I plan on coming up to our cottage around September 15, staying thru’ October. It has been a long 23 months. Hoping you are all staying well. Please take care and as always:

Be safe,
